# Provider Signatures

> Adopt a reusable signature and stamp it on clinical notes.

## Provider Signatures

Each provider can save a signature once and reuse it on notes, instead of drawing
it every time. A saved signature can be stamped into a note and is added to the
bottom of the note when it is signed off.

### Adopt your signature

1. Go to **Settings → Profile**.
2. In the **Signature** section, choose **Adopt signature**.
3. Pick one of two ways to create it:
   * **Draw** — sign with your mouse, finger, or trackpad.
   * **Type** — type your name and choose a handwriting style.
4. Choose **Save signature**. Your signature now shows in your profile.

Use **Change signature** to replace it or **Remove** to clear it at any time.

Staff who manage users can also set or change a signature for another provider
from **Settings → Users** by opening that person and editing their **Signature**.

### Add a signature field to a note template

1. Go to **Settings → Note Templates** and open a template.
2. From **Add Fields**, choose **Provider signature**.
3. Optionally add instructions that show above the signature picker.
4. Save the template.

### Stamp a signature on a note

When you fill out a note that has a provider-signature field, it starts on your
own name and shows your saved signature. You can pick a different provider from
the list. If the provider you pick has not saved a signature yet, the note shows
a reminder to add one in **Settings → Profile**.

### Signing off

When a note is signed off, the signing provider's signature is added to the
bottom of the note. If the signer has not saved a signature, Decoda warns them
first, and the note shows their name with a "no signature on file" note instead
of an image. Saved signatures also appear when the note is printed or exported.
