# Printing Medication Labels

> Print a medication label for a dose straight from the patient chart, review and edit the details first, and send it to a label printer.

Print a ready-to-stick medication label for any dose in a patient's medication list. You review and adjust everything on the label before it prints, so what you see is exactly what comes out of the label printer.

<Info>
  This feature is turned on per clinic. If you don't see the **Print Label** option, ask your administrator to enable label printing for your clinic.
</Info>

## Print a label

1. Open the patient's chart and go to the **Medications** list (the provider-administered doses).
2. Find the dose you want a label for and click the **actions menu** (the button at the end of the row).
3. Choose **Print Label**.
4. A window opens with a live preview of the label on one side and editable fields on the other.
5. Check the details, make any changes, then click **Print Label** to send it to your printer.

## What's filled in for you

Wherever the information is already on file, the label is filled in automatically:

* **Clinic and prescriber** — the prescribing provider's name and credentials, your clinic name, and the location where the dose was given, plus that location's address and phone.
* **Patient** — name, date of birth, phone, patient ID, and shipping address.
* **Medication** — the drug and strength, plus the directions.
* **Dates and lot** — dispense date, prescription date, and the lot number.
* **NDC and expiration** — pulled from the batch the dose was drawn from, when available.

## Things you may need to fill in

Some details aren't always on file, so you can type or adjust them right in the print window:

* **Prescriber** — if the provider who gave the dose doesn't have a DEA number saved, pick a prescriber who does from the dropdown. A provider's DEA number is saved on their profile under **Settings → Profile**.
* **DEA number**, **refills**, and **days supply**.
* **Shipping address** — start typing to search for an address, or enter it by hand.
* **Dispense, NDC, and dates** — adjust anything that isn't correct.

<Tip>
  The label text automatically resizes to fit. If a label has a lot of directions, the text shrinks so everything stays on the label. For very long directions, shorten the wording so the important details stay easy to read.
</Tip>

## Signing the label

Each printed label includes blank lines for **DR**, **MOA**, and **PT** signatures so it can be signed and filed after printing.
