# Provider Journey

> The first 24 hours for clinicians and medical providers.

<div className="kb-journey">
  <div className="kb-meta">⏱ About 20 minutes to get comfortable</div>

  Your time belongs with patients, not paperwork. This is the short path to getting documentation, prescriptions, and exams out of your way so the software stays in the background.

  <div className="kb-outcomes">
    **By the end of your first day, you'll be able to:**

    * See your whole day at a glance on the calendar
    * Document a visit in minutes with AI Scribe — no typing
    * Capture before-and-after photos and log doses to a note
    * Send a prescription without leaving Decoda
    * Complete a Good Faith Exam when one's required
    * Review a patient's full history before you walk in
  </div>

  ## Learn these first

  <Steps>
    <Step title="Live on your calendar">
      The calendar is your day at a glance — every appointment, block, and shift in one view. Open the **Check-In** section and filter by provider and location so you see only your own schedule and always know who's next.

    </Step>

    <Step title="Take a clinical note">
      Good notes protect you and the patient, but they shouldn't eat your day. **AI Scribe** records the visit and writes a structured note for you; or fill one in by hand from a template. Either way the note links automatically to the patient, provider, and appointment — nothing gets re-entered.

    </Step>

    <Step title="Record photos and doses">
      Before-and-after photos and a clear dose history are what make a treatment defensible later. Attach photos to a note for visual records, and log medications and injections in the **Medication Doses** section so every dose is tracked, linked to the note, and signed off.

    </Step>

    <Step title="E-prescribe medications">
      Send prescriptions electronically through the DoseSpot integration, right from the patient's chart — you're signed in automatically, so there's no separate login or paper to chase.

      [E-Prescribing](/guides/e-prescribing)
    </Step>

    <Step title="Complete Good Faith Exams">
      A Good Faith Exam is required before many aesthetic treatments and certain medications to stay compliant with medical-board standards. Decoda connects to two GFE providers — SpaKinect and Qualiphy — so you can request and review exams right from a patient's appointment without leaving Decoda. Ask your Decoda support representative to set this up if it isn't already.

      [SpaKinect GFEs](/guides/spakinect-good-faith-exams) · [Qualiphy GFEs](/modules/settings/qualiphy)
    </Step>

    <Step title="Know the patient chart">
      The chart pulls together history, notes, medications, forms, and appointments for each person, so a quick scan before a visit tells you everything you need — and saves you from asking questions the patient already answered.

      [Patient Chart](/modules/patients/patient-chart)
    </Step>

    <Step title="Set up your notifications">
      Notifications keep you in the loop without checking the app constantly — a note awaiting sign-off, a new lab or message, a schedule change. They're per-user, so turn on what matters to your work and choose in-app, email, or text.

      **Turn these on in-app to start:** your appointments being booked, changed, or cancelled, and form submissions for your patients. Leave **Only My Appointments** on so you only hear about your own schedule. Add incoming messages if you reply to patients yourself.

    </Step>
  </Steps>

  ## An encounter, start to finish

  Once you've got the basics, here's how the pieces fit together for a single visit:

  1. **Before you walk in** — Open the patient's chart and scan their history, recent notes, and current medications.
  2. **Start the visit** — Find the appointment on the calendar to confirm the service and time.
  3. **Document it** — Start **AI Scribe** to record and auto-generate the note, or write one from a template.
  4. **Capture the work** — Attach before-and-after photos and log any doses or injections in **Medication Doses**.
  5. **Prescribe** — Send any prescriptions through e-prescribing, straight from the chart.
  6. **Close it out** — Review and [sign off](/modules/notes/sign-off-and-versioning) the note so the record is final.

  <Tip>
    Let AI Scribe do the writing. Recording the encounter and reviewing the generated note is almost always faster than typing — and it keeps your eyes on the patient, not the keyboard.
