When a patient wants to move to a different plan — for example, from a facial membership to a laser membership — you can switch them directly instead of cancelling their current plan and signing them up again.

How to switch a plan

  1. Open the patient’s profile and go to the Memberships tab.
  2. Select the membership you want to change.
  3. Open the actions menu (the button) and choose Switch Membership.
  4. Pick the plan you want to move the patient to.
  5. Choose when the switch takes effect:
    • Leave the date empty to switch right now.
    • Pick a future date to schedule the switch for that day.
  6. Review the note about what happens to their benefits, then confirm.

What happens to their benefits

On the day the switch takes effect:
  • The patient’s current benefits are archived and replaced with fresh benefits from the new plan.
  • Any partly-used benefits from the old plan do not carry over.
  • The payment already collected for the current period is not refunded.
  • The new plan starts a fresh billing cycle, and its first charge is collected one cycle later.
A switch replaces benefits completely. If the patient has valuable benefits left on their current plan, wait until they’ve used them before switching.

Scheduling a switch for later

If you pick a future date, the patient stays on their current plan and keeps being billed as normal until that day. The switch is applied automatically on the scheduled date — you don’t need to do anything else.

Which memberships can be switched

You can switch a patient whose membership is active or frozen. A membership that is delinquent (has a failed payment) can’t be switched — collect the outstanding balance first, then switch the plan.

After the switch

The old membership is marked Switched and stops billing. It stays on the patient’s record so you can still see their history, and the switch is recorded on the membership timeline. The new membership becomes their active plan.
